The reefs along the shoreline of Namenalala Island are excellent for snorkeling. Just off the docks we have giant clams of all colors. Snorkelers can enjoy seeing miniature coral gardens supporting both hard and soft corals of every hue and color imaginable. Do you realize that the South Pacific has around 300 varieties of corals as opposed to about 30 varieties in the Caribbean? Snorkel with turtles, rays, fishes of many species just a few feet away from the shoreline. If you haven't ever put on a mask and snorkel, you are missing the magic of the underwater world. Our guides will show you "how-to" and accompany you to point out the various sea creatures as you glide over them.
Check out the photos on this page - ALL of them were taken by snorkelers in shallow waters along the shoreline, especially the reefs of the leeward (dock) side of the island. This photo of a turtle was taken from the deck of one of the guest bures so you can even enjoy some 'armchair snorkeling' on your visit to Moody's Namena!
Favorable sea conditions prevailing, we'll also take you to the Namena Barrier Reef for some breath-taking snorkeling experiences. Most of the barrier reef is walls which come right up to the surface. If we have scuba divers, they dive the deeper waters while our snorkelers amble along the top. Many times our snorkelers will see more sea creatures than divers - especially photographic divers - who are concentrating on one small fish or nudibranch or coral. This is where snorkelers have an advantage as they are seeing the vast overall scenery of the reef ecosystem.

One suggestion to protect you from sunburn as your body is exposed to the strong sunlight - even in overcast skies you can get sunburned - is to purchase a thin lycra stretch bodysuit which can be purchased online. I bought mine through Amazon.com and the cost is under US$70.00. Some of the suits incorporate UV block ingredients as these bodysuits (get the long leg/long sleeve suit) are ultra thin and so easy to pack. To enhance your snorkeling experiences, go to a dive shop and try on various sizes and shapes of mask and find one to fit your facial contours; the same with fins as an ill-fitting pair of fins can cause blisters. We do have a small assortment of mask sizes and fins in the event you do not own or carry your own which you can borrow while on the island at no charge. All snorkeling excursions are complimentary.
Now, let's go snorkeling .........
